What is Aikido?

It is a complete Japanese self–defense system consisting of throws, joint locks, nerve pressure points, blocks, strikes and weaponry. The word Aikido means “The Way in Harmony with the Spirit” Simply put by using the attacker’s weight and momentum while applying proven techniques,a smaller,weaker person can successfully defend against a larger,stronger adversary.

NIHON GOSHIN AIKIDO HISTORY:

Nihon Goshin Aikido is a hand to hand fighting system which was founded and developed by a Japanese Martial Arts Master named Shodo Morita. Before his death in 1962, Master Morita promoted Richard A. Bowe,the first American to the rank of Black Belt.Richard A. Bowe brought the art back to America in 1962. Today Shihan Richard A. Bowe (New Jersey)is ranked the highest in the world, Roku-Dan(Sixth Degree)the second highest ranked Nihon Goshin Association Black Belt is Sensei Robert B. MacEwen Jr.(New York) currently Yon-Dan(Fourth Degree).Sensei Jim Giorgi(Florida)San-Dan(Third Degree).Sensei William J. Eagle (Florida)Ni-Dan(Second Degree).Sensei Eagle has trained with Shihan Bowe as well as under the direct supervision of both Sensei MacEwen and Sensei Giorgi.
