Martial Arts and ADD/ADHD Children

“Childhood ADHD — attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder — is diagnosed after a child has shown six or more specific symptoms of inactivity and/or hyperactivity on a regular basis for more than six months in more than two settings. There is no single test for ADHD.”

Hi everyone!

We hear more and more on daily basis about ADD/ADHD kids, and how everyone is doing their “own treatment” to their kids, and the most common, or should I say “easier” way for some people is to give kids medications, or the pills.

I personally don’t believe in pills, since back on my time when I was a kid, we never heard the ADD/ADHD terms and our parents’ treatments where way different than the actual ones. (It’s sad nowadays parents lost their power to discipline, since now the schools teach the kids to call the cops on their own parents)

Of course there are some cases, where no one can help the situation, but in most cases I believe that parents could work on some things to help kids to be more focused and under control, such as:

-Enroll your child in a Martial Arts Program, where instructors are constantly working on Self Control, Focus and Discipline,

-Keep a daily routine at home,

-Give your child one task at a time,

-While doing home work, getting dressed or eating dinner, turn TV and radio off, so there will be NO distractions,

-Focus is one of the things that ADD/ADHD kids need the most, and it is a taught task, so make sure your work on it on daily basis.

-Games such as puzzles, books with Q&A at the end will definitely help.

If this post can help at least ONE child I will be very happy!

Knowledge= Power

Hi everyone!

This is our first blog of many, after checking my Grandmaster’s blog (Fabio Goulart), I decided to do the same, since once again I will be following his steps as a Martial Artist.

Knowledge= Power

Once I heard from a great friend: “Regis, look at all the powerful people in this world, somehow they all have knowledge in something, politics, sports, science, etc.”  so, to be Someone in this world, we need to study, research and do whatever we need to have Knowledge. The only exception in my eyes, it is if you are born in a wealthy family :)

It doesn’t matter in what field you work or want to succeed,  just make sure you focus in one thing at a time and go all the way, instead of learning a bit of everything, and at the end not being the best you can be in one single thing.

I hope you enjoyed!

Feel free to send your comments.

New location added!

We are very happy to announce that starting in February, 2011 we will be teaching Taekwondo for kids 3 years old and up in our satelite location: Kids at the Point, Hudson, FL.

The owner, Mrs. Cinnamon invited us to start a program at her Learning Center since she heard great things about our schools and our programs.

Our goal is to be able to teach these kids  not just punches and kicks, but the Tenets of Taekwondo along with Life Skills. Once again, I’d like to thank all the families and parents that support our school and spread the word in our community.” Master Lima

“We spoke to almost 500 kids, and we were very happy to be able to show a little bit of what we do in classes, talk about Respect, Discipline and Bullying in the schools. Also we had a chance to bring some of our students that go to those schools and they could demonstrate what they learned in our school. It was a great experience for all of us!

“My wish is that the Pasco County School Board add Martial Arts within the P.E. classes or as part of the school curriculum, I’m sure it will be very helpful to the kids discipline, respect, self-defense and also to prevent the bullying in the schools. Our proposal is almost ready to be sent to the School Board and we have our fingers crossed that they accept it!” -Master Lima

The athletes: Angelica Martello, Amanda Lobianco, Brandon Poire, Denice Johnson, Dylan Fawcett, Gage Sugg, Kattie Maccia, Kirten Maccia, Kate Mojack, Katy Towne, Jacob Rockwell, Justin Rockwell, Serena McNally and Trey Johnson brought to Pasco and Hernando Counties a total of  13 medals after competing at the AAU Taekwondo Nationals Championship in Ft. Lauderdale from June 28th-July 3rd.

The coaches were: Master Regis Lima, Mrs. Pamela Towne and Mr. Ralph Lobianco.

“This is a new generation of athletes, besides being young (the youngest is 5 yrs.old) ,  most of them never competed in a tournament at a national level. They did a fantastic job, besides representing our Team with honor, respect and sportsmanship, they showed to all of us coaches and parents that their future is bright and very promising.

I’m personally very happy and thankful to know how their parents support us and trust our work. Also, a big thankful to Mrs.Pamela Towne and Mr. Ralph Lobianco for coaching the team while I was absent! We are surrounded by fantastic families!”-Master Lima
